This is Ricky. Now I'm the first person to admit I know NOTHING about pigs. Neither did the woman who found Ricky. She didn't let that stand in her way of saving him! She put a plea out for help on the web and help came.
Ricky was found wandering around someone's large yard. With no Mom to help him, this little guy was sure to face certain death without intervention.
Now how could anyone refuse to help this sweet little darling!!! His only crime is to be born in a time where his natural area is rapidly dwindling.
The woman who found him didn't even know what to feed a pig so she gave him dog food until she could learn more.
Here she decided to add some apples and grapes to his food!!
Some human inteaction to help him become socialized. Amazing that this wild creature could be so trusting!! Do you have any doubt this little boy would have died without her help?
One captured Ricky on his way to a sanctuary where he will be neutered and then placed in a forever home. At his forever home is a playmate for him, named Lucille...so there will be Ricky and Lucy.
Ricky in his new home! Notice as he aged how his stripes disappeared.
What a handsome boy!!! How could anyone not fall in love with him???
Here's a story you'll just love. Butch goes out to feed the other morning and the latch on Rickie's cage doesn't(Butch doesn't know).....So he's on the other side of the yard feeding some of the others, turns around, and there stands Ricky. So he asks him what's he doing and walks him back to his pen whereupon he notices he DIDN'T EAT. So now he can't get him to go into the pen and asks him what's the matter and Ricky looks at him for a minute and throws himself on the ground for a BELLY RUB.
So Butch rubs on him for a few minutes, Ricky gets up, goes into his pen and eats his breakfast pretty as you please, but not without his
morning loving.
This pig is the MOST AWESOME little creature.....you made a BIG MISTAKE not just keeping him. He is loving and friendly and playful and gentle. I can't tell you what a wonderful little guy he is and HOW MUCH we love him and HOW MUCH JOY he is.....just plain old unadulterated JOY......you can pick him up like a puppy(uhhh, large dog). He has no fear.....he feels perfectly safe no matter who or what is going on.
Here is an excerpt from a letter sent to the original saver.
What a wonderful happy ending. It just goes to prove that even with no knowledge, but a big heart, all things are possible!!
All saves are important. It is what keeps the human is us humans!
