CHRISTOPHER YORK
This is Christopher York's story. He was found wandering around in Queens New York in the middle of the winter. Christopher York has had a very horrible start in life. He is missing most of one of his back legs. Left picture is when he was first rescued.
He was rescued by a woman  who was unable to keep him. Poor Christopher York has also been cursed with having feline leukemia. Many people think they should segregate cats that have this disease. Many don't believe you have to segregate them!  This woman put a plea out on the web for a home for him. To see her web site, which includes other cats, click here! She was keeping him locked up in a cage to keep him away from the other cats she had rescued. He has lived most of his rescued life in a cage. Christopher York has been adopted by a women who has several other FeLv cats. She believes in supporting the cat physically and emotionally to help the cat have the strength to fight the disease, plus have a wonderful quality of life. She does not believe in segregating them!
Here is Christopher York when he first arrived in his new forever home!
Here are some pictures of Christopher York one week later.
He wants loving, but is still scared!
His first night in his new home. You can tell he is terrified. He just doesn't know how lucky he is yet!!
Maybe this life is going to be alright!

Christopher York crossed the bridge on January 11, 2002.....just 7 months after he came to live with us.
The leukemia was simply stronger than he was.....and he didn't have the strength to continue the fight.  His death was not peaceful....nor gentle.  But I was able to be with him right to the end.

I didn't say goodbye to Christopher......I told him I would see him later.

I have done a lot of reflecting on my time with Christopher...my very short time.  I don't think he was meant to be here for long...he was needed at the bridge.  His determination and drive to live like a normal cat were an inspiration and my life will be forever blessed having witnessed such courage.
I take comfort knowing that Christopher is no longer in pain....that he now runs on four strong and powerful legs...and that the leukemia cannot ravage his body any longer.

He has moved onto the next chapter of his life.............for the animals do not look on death as an ending........but a new beginning of yet another adventure.  I hope that he carries many happy memories of his time with us.....he taught us many valuable lessons.............Christopher showed me everyday what real courage was.........what determination means....and how to enjoy life no matter what hand it deals you.

Christopher's physical presence is gone..........but he lives on in all of us.......and all the lives he touched.

Not a bad legacy for a little white cat from the streets of New York.
