This is Binky. He is about 6 years old. Just before Halloween, we started seeing Binky around the neighborhood He was a very untrusting guy. Eventually, after much food and talking, he allowed us to capture him. We caught him just before Halloween, as it wasn't safe for an all black cat to be out. We named him Binky after Binks, the black cat in the movie Hocus Pocus. We took him to the vet, as we always do, before introducing him to our group. He tested positive for FIV, my worst nightmare for a rescue. He seemed in good health, and is, other than the FIV. The vet immediately recommended putting him down. I refused as he was in otherwise good health. Instead I got him his rabies and FRVCP vaccine and had him neutered in the hopes of finding a home for him.
He is currently residing, segregated, in my back bedroom. He was obviously someone's pet and had been dumped. He knew how to use a litter box, how to play properly with humans, and understood basic owner language his first day. He is a very sweet boy. Sometimes he gets a little wild when you're playing with him and draws blood, but he looks sorry afterwards and you know he didn't mean it. He loves being picked up, petted, and held like a baby. Unfortunately, he is still somewhat skittish and still has that wild eyed, frightened look when you first go to visit.
He plays with the other cats underneath the door. He wants to be in the community, but I don't feel that is safe since he is a biter and scratcher. I tried to find a home for him, but there are almost NO resources for a cat that is FIV+. I know he would be happier if I could find a home for him with other cats that are FIV+ or in a home where he is the only pet. He is really a gregarious soul and wants a lot of interaction. Unfortunately, the only places that have offered him a home would either keep him in a cage or he would be in one room, as he is here, with a shelter helper trying to give him some attention.
Until I can find him a private home, he'll reside with me. He deserves so much better a life than he has had. He is so full of love and trust and just waits to share it with the right someone.
HAPPY ENDING!!!
Binky has found his forever home. After almost 2 years!!! It just goes to show, you should never give up hope. With the help of several people (you know who you are and I thank you so much for helping me save this baby's life) a home was found for him and 12 hours of transportation was provided. This could have never happened without several caring people's help!!!!
Here are some pictures of Binky in his new home!!!
